Wooly is a Bible study and prayer app operated by Simon Sarkka. This policy explains how the current app and woolybible.com handle information, including AI-generated narration, the New Living Translation Bible text and feature suggestions. Contact us at help@woolybible.com.

1. What stays on your device

You do not need a Wooly account. Your study progress, streaks, quiz results, preferences, saved reflections, prayer intentions and saved prayers are stored in the app on your device. Wooly does not upload your typed prayer intentions, reflections or saved prayer library. Narration uses Bible passages, lesson explanations and guided-prayer text included with the app; it does not use text you write.

Wooly does not record your voice or use your microphone for prayer. Device backups may contain local app data, depending on your Apple backup settings.

2. AI narration (text-to-speech)

Lessons, guided prayers and People stories read themselves aloud unless you turn this off, and you can also choose Listen or start Bible audio. Whenever narration plays, Wooly first checks its on-device audio cache. If audio is not cached, the app sends Wooly's included passage, lesson explanation or guided-prayer text to a narration service hosted by Cloudflare. The request also includes the selected voice and a content label. It does not include your name, email, subscription receipt, typed prayer intention or reflection.

The app automatically creates a random installation code and sends it with narration requests. Cloudflare uses that code and the request's IP address to limit excessive requests, with 60-second rate-limit windows. The code is stored on your device, is not your name or account ID, and is not used for advertising or cross-app tracking. Cloudflare also processes connection information needed to operate and secure the service. Requests use HTTPS.

Cloudflare's narration service also has automatic request logs and sampled technical traces enabled. These can record request and response details, whether a narration request succeeded, and service timing information so the service can be monitored and troubleshot. Cloudflare says Workers Logs and traces are retained for up to 3 days on its Free plan or 7 days on its Paid plan. See Cloudflare Workers Logs and Workers traces.

When narration is not already in the shared audio cache, Cloudflare forwards the included text, selected voice and language to a third-party AI text-to-speech service provider to synthesize audio. The app installation code, personal identifiers and your IP address are not included in that request body. The AI service provider retains API requests and responses for up to 30 days solely for abuse and security auditing, after which they are deleted automatically, and does not use submitted text to train its models without explicit permission.

Wooly stores generated audio in a shared Cloudflare cache so the same included content and voice can be reused. The narration code does not set an expiration date for these audio files; Cloudflare storage retention settings may also apply. The cache stores audio and basic labels such as the content label and voice; it does not store the raw narration text or installation code in the audio object's metadata. Returned audio is also cached on your device. See Cloudflare's Privacy Policy.

You can read, study and pray without using narration. If you do not want these requests sent, turn off Read lessons aloud in Settings → Sound & haptics and avoid starting Listen or Bible audio. Pausing or stopping audio stops playback; requests already sent cannot be recalled.

3. The New Living Translation (NLT)

Wooly's default Bible is the New Living Translation, and the app also offers the NLT Catholic Edition. Tyndale House licenses these texts through API.Bible, a service of the American Bible Society, and they are not included in the app. When you open an NLT chapter that is not already saved on your device, or search the NLT, the app asks Wooly's server, hosted by Cloudflare. The request contains the Bible edition, the book and chapter or your search words, and a random installation code. Cloudflare uses that code and the request's IP address to limit excessive requests, with 60-second rate-limit windows. The code is not your name or account ID and is not used for advertising or cross-app tracking.

If the server does not already have the chapter or search, it asks API.Bible, sending only the edition and the chapter or search words. Your installation code and IP address are not included. The server keeps each chapter and search result in a shared cache for up to 14 days; that cache is not tied to any device or person. Chapters are saved on your device for up to 30 days, as the licence requires, and the app may save your next lesson's chapter ahead of time so it opens offline. The other Bibles in Wooly are included with the app and send no requests. See API.Bible's Privacy Policy.

4. Suggest a feature

If you send an idea from Profile → Suggest a feature, the app sends your message and, only if you type it, your email address to Wooly's server, hosted by Cloudflare. It also sends the app version, iOS version, iPhone model and how many lessons and stories you have finished, so we can understand the idea in context, plus the random installation code described above. The code is used only to limit how many messages one device can send.

The server emails your message, email address and those details, but not the installation code, to our inbox through Resend, an email delivery service. We read ideas to improve Wooly and use your email address only to reply about your idea. Please avoid including sensitive prayer content or payment details. See Resend's Privacy Policy.

5. Purchases, diagnostics and reminders

  • Apple purchases: Apple processes subscriptions. Wooly uses StoreKit's signed transaction information to check access, restore purchases and handle renewals or expiration. We do not receive your card details. Manage or cancel in your Apple subscription settings; deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.
  • Diagnostics: Apple may make crash reports and technical diagnostics available to us according to your sharing settings. These help investigate failures. TestFlight also shares beta-testing information and feedback under Apple's TestFlight privacy notice.
  • Reminders: With your permission, the app schedules local notifications. You can change notification permissions in iOS Settings.

6. Website, support and service providers

Apple provides app distribution, payments and device services. Cloudflare hosts the narration service, the shared audio cache and the server for NLT text and feature suggestions; third-party cloud AI service providers generate audio speech when a requested narration is not already cached. API.Bible supplies the NLT text, and Resend delivers feature suggestions to our inbox. Our website is hosted by Vercel and loads styling and fonts from Tailwind's CDN and Google Fonts; these providers receive connection information, including your IP address, when your browser requests their resources. External links have their own privacy policies.

If you email support, we receive your email address, message and any attachments you choose to send. Our email service processes that correspondence so we can respond and resolve your request. Please avoid including sensitive prayer content or payment details in support messages.

We do not sell personal information or use advertising trackers in the app. We use the information described here to provide requested features, support purchases, resolve support requests and maintain security and reliability. Service providers may also process information under their own policies and applicable legal obligations.

7. Retention, deletion and your choices

Local progress and saved content remain until you delete them or delete the app. You can delete individual saved prayers in My prayers. iOS may clear cached narration to reclaim storage. Deleting the app removes its local container, but offloading it keeps app data, and copies in backups are governed by your backup settings. Manage or delete those backups through Apple.

The app's random installation codes stay on your device until the app's local data is removed. NLT chapters saved on your device are deleted after 30 days if they cannot be refreshed, and the server's shared copies expire after 14 days. Feature suggestions stay in our inbox for as long as we need them to consider the idea and reply; Resend's delivery records follow Resend's policies. Cloudflare's rate-limit counters use 60-second windows, plus a one-day count of feature suggestions per installation code; its automatic service logs and sampled traces may be retained for up to 3 days on the Free plan or 7 days on the Paid plan. Generated narration audio may remain in the shared Cloudflare cache; Cloudflare storage retention settings may also apply. Third-party AI narration providers automatically delete API inputs and outputs within 30 days, subject to limited security exceptions described in their data handling documentation. Support correspondence and operational records may remain for the time needed to resolve requests, maintain security or meet legal obligations. Apple's purchase and diagnostic records follow Apple's policies. Deleting the app does not remove records held by those providers.

Contact help@woolybible.com to request access, correction or deletion of information we hold, or to ask about other privacy rights available where you live. We may need to verify a requester's identity. We cannot retrieve local-only prayers or reflections from your device.

8. Children's privacy

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent personal information to us, contact help@woolybible.com so we can investigate and take appropriate action. Parents and guardians should supervise children's use of online narration, feature suggestions and support services.

9. Changes and contact

We will update this policy when our practices change and identify the update date above. For questions, contact help@woolybible.com.
